National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Register of Significant Trees lists all significant trees by Council Area and then by species.
Heritage and significant trees are important assets to the community and have a significance that stretches across considerable periods of time and many human generations. By registering or “classifying” such specimens, public awareness of important trees is heightened, and ideally the quality of their management improved and their prospects for longer lifespans increased. Registers do not guarantee proper management and long term survival of these specimens, but they have been successful in bringing such trees to the attention of the public and securing a considerable measure of protection against mismangement and damage. This register lists all significant trees by Council Area and then by species.
